July 5, 2002, Newsletter Issue #33: How to Remove *Padding* From Your Writing

Tip of the Week

Get rid of the clutter in your writing. Instead of a phrase, try and use a single word. For example:

give a response = respond
hold a conference = confer
cooperate together = cooperate
make a decision = decide
until such time as = when
bring to a resolution = resolve
at this point in time = now
7:00 p.m. in the evening = 7:00 p.m.
